Caramel colouring in cat food: what you need to know

Colouring is not a nutritional-quality score.

Why it matters

A colour additive changes appearance, but its presence does not establish poor formulation or a cancer risk in a particular food. Our earlier claims about safe doses in cat food and manufacturer motives were not supported by product-specific evidence.

How to spot it on the label

Check the exact colour declaration and product information. “Caramel” can appear in different contexts; ask the manufacturer if the label is unclear.

What to look for instead

You can prefer an uncoloured food, while still checking nutritional adequacy and manufacturing controls. Colour alone cannot settle that choice.

Where you find Caramel colouring in Singapore

Check the current pack and manufacturer information for the exact recipe sold in Singapore; we do not infer brand-wide ingredient use. Browse the full cat food database to filter by brand or rating.

Sources and review scope

WSAVA nutrition questions and food-selection guidance explain why ingredients alone cannot rank a complete food. Ingredient-specific uncertainty is stated above; this is not a clinical endorsement.
